Add joy to your life, learn to play guitar!

Benefits for Seniors

Other than the sheer enjoyment and extra “fullness” of life our older students experience, there are proven benefits to learning to play guitar in your later years – your sixties, seventies, eighties and beyond!

Keeps the Mind Sharp

Learning guitar involves memorization, coordination, and problem-solving, all of which help maintain cognitive function and mental acuity as you age.

Many elderly students express amazement that they experience less forgetfulness and feel sharper after just a few weeks of guitar lessons!

Provides Emotional Well-being

Playing music can be a great emotional outlet and stress reliever. It promotes relaxation, boosts mood, and can even reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.

I’m just a couple years shy of eighty and I know that when I play guitar in the evenings, the stresses of the day are soon forgotten and I can sleep more easily.

Social Connection

Playing guitar creates opportunities to bond with others, whether through group lessons, jam sessions, or family gatherings, fostering a sense of community and reducing isolation.

I think that the fact that I really don’t play all that well, makes it less intimidating for friends to sing along and we all just have fun. Playing guitar adds so much to get-togethers, like adding Tobasco to a dish of gumbo!

Improves Hand-Eye Coordination and Motor Skills

The physical act of playing guitar helps maintain dexterity and coordination, which is especially beneficial for fine motor control in aging hands.

The tech next to me knocked a tool off his workbench and before I knew it, I’d caught the wrench with my left hand! (Good thing it wasn’t a hot soldering iron!) I doubt I could have done that if not for all the coordination I’ve built in that hand by playing guitar.

Sense of Accomplishment

Learning something new like guitar playing offers a sense of achievement and pride, boosting self-esteem and giving a sense of purpose.

I just love bring those old-old country songs back to life! Songs we’ll never hear again on the radio. Songs by greats like Jimmie Rodgers, Leroy Van Dyke, Hank Thompson, Vern Gosdin and many others. Well, they’d probably roll in their graves if they could hear me singing, but I get a ton of enjoyment from performing those old songs. My wife, Jean, plays along side me with her bass guitar (that she learned to play using our “Quick Learn” method in just about one hour!

Why You Should Learn Guitar in Your “Sunset Years” –

Well, here’s the deal. One year from now, you’re gonna be one year older, whether you’ve learned guitar or not. That’s a fact. Would you rather be a guitar player and a year older, or just a year older???

Show you care. Change their world.

For Children 8 and Over:

Boosts Creativity
Guitar playing encourages children to think creatively, whether it’s composing their own music, improvising, or experimenting with different sounds.

Builds Discipline and Patience
Learning an instrument requires practice, which helps children develop discipline and patience as they gradually improve their skills over time.

Discipline and patience are perhaps the two most important character traits. How else will they learn them? Through video games? Osmosis?

Enhances Cognitive Development
Music education has been linked to improved memory, mathematical skills, and overall academic performance, especially for children in their developmental years.

Mastering a song or performing for others can build a child’s confidence and provide a strong sense of accomplishment, encouraging them to tackle other challenges.

Fosters Emotional Expression
Playing guitar gives children a healthy outlet for their emotions, allowing them to express themselves in ways that words might not allow, which can be helpful for emotional development.

What Are You Waiting For?

No doubt that giving your child guitar lessons will enhance their life, perhaps more than anything else you could do. Teaching them self-discipline, giving them confidence and enhancing their social skills.
